International Codes Support: European, Italian, Caribbean

9 min read

Quick Summary

  • Works with European standards (EN), Italian standards, Caribbean codes, AASHTO, ASTM, LRFD for bridges, and any international building codes
  • Upload your applicable codes as PDFs—the AI will check against whatever standards you provide
  • Multi-language support: drawings and codes can be in Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, French, or other languages
  • If we don't have a code in our library, we'll add it—or you can upload it directly

Construction is global—but building codes are local. Whether you're working with European EN standards, Italian building codes, Caribbean regulations, or specialized standards like AASHTO for bridges, AI plan checking adapts to your project's requirements.

How International Code Checking Works

1. Upload Your Codes

When creating a project, upload the applicable building codes, standards, and regulations as PDFs. The AI will check your drawings and specifications against whatever codes you provide.

Example: For an Italian project, upload the Italian building code (Norme Tecniche per le Costruzioni), European EN standards, and any local regulations.

2. Automatic Code Detection

If your drawings reference specific codes (like on a cover sheet), the AI will identify them. If we have those codes in our library, we'll use them. If not, we'll add them—or you can upload them directly.

Example: Drawings list "AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications" on the cover sheet—the AI identifies this and checks against it.

3. Multi-Language Support

Your drawings and codes can be in any language—Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, French, or others. The AI understands the content regardless of language. (Note: The user interface is in English, but project documents can be in any language.)

Example: Italian engineering firm uploads drawings in Italian and Italian building codes—the AI checks compliance in Italian.

Supported Standards and Codes

European Standards

  • EN (Eurocode) standards for structural design
  • Country-specific implementations (Italian, French, German, etc.)
  • Local building regulations and amendments

Specialized Standards

  • AASHTO (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials) for bridges
  • ASTM standards for materials and testing
  • LRFD (Load and Resistance Factor Design) specifications

Caribbean Standards

  • Country-specific building codes
  • Regional construction standards
  • Hurricane and seismic requirements

Any Standard You Need

  • If we don't have it, we'll add it to our library
  • Or upload it directly with your project files
  • Works with any publicly available code or standard

Real-World Examples

Italian Engineering Firm

An Italian engineering company working on projects across Italy needed to verify compliance with Italian building codes (Norme Tecniche per le Costruzioni) and European EN standards. Their drawings and specifications were in Italian.

Solution: They uploaded their Italian drawings, specifications, and the applicable Italian and European codes as PDFs. The AI checked the project in Italian, identifying issues like:

  • Structural calculations that didn't meet Italian seismic requirements
  • Material specifications that didn't comply with EN standards
  • Fire safety requirements specific to Italian regulations
  • Accessibility standards per Italian building codes

Result: Issues were caught before submission to Italian authorities, ensuring compliance with both Italian and European standards.

Bridge Engineering Project

A structural engineering firm working on bridge projects needed to verify compliance with AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and ASTM material standards.

Solution: They uploaded their bridge drawings, specifications, and the AASHTO and ASTM standards. The AI checked for:

  • Anchor bolt geometry issues (impossible configurations)
  • Insufficient concrete cover per AASHTO requirements
  • Structural steel grades that didn't meet specifications
  • Bill of materials with zero quantities (data entry errors)
  • ASTM code contradictions in material specifications

Result: Critical structural issues were identified before construction, preventing costly field corrections.

Best Practices for International Projects

Preparing Your Project

  • Identify All Applicable Codes: List all building codes, standards, and regulations that apply to your project. This might include national codes, regional amendments, and industry-specific standards.
  • Upload Codes as PDFs: If you have the codes available as PDFs, upload them with your project. This ensures the AI has the exact versions you're using.
  • Language Doesn't Matter: Your drawings and codes can be in any language. The AI understands the content regardless of whether it's in English, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, French, or other languages.
  • We Can Add Missing Codes: If we don't have a specific code in our library, just let us know and we'll add it. Or upload it directly with your project files.

Getting Started

Step-by-Step Process

  1. Create a new project in your dashboard
  2. Upload your drawings and specifications (in any language)
  3. Upload the applicable building codes, standards, and regulations as PDFs
  4. If you're not sure which codes apply, the AI can help identify them from your cover sheets
  5. Click "AI Check" and the system will verify compliance against all the codes you've provided

Note: If you need a code added to our library for future use, just contact us with the code document and we'll add it.
